Museum Archivist
Status: Part-time (20 hrs/week)/Short Term Contract
Start Date: Summer 2022
Reports to: Collections Committee Chair
Responsibilities
Review Past Perfect database to understand the current processed collection.
Identify opportunities to improve data collection and retention.
Find and identify the location of the current catalogued collection within the museum.
Identify items not processed /catalogued and:
input the available donation form information into Past Perfect database
research, where possible, the items without donation forms or provenance information.
Provide periodic updates to the board and make recommendations for collection management moving forward.
Train board members and designated volunteers on the use of the Past Perfect software and archiving process.
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in Archival Studies, Information Sciences or related field, or equivalent experience.
At least three (3) years’ experience working in records and archives management, with demonstrated experience in electronic records and archives management software.
Experience in digital archives and metadata curation within an archives or related organization.
Knowledge of digital preservation issues, strategies, and standards.
Knowledge of accessioning, arranging, and describing archival material.
The individual holding this position must be of the highest integrity and have a very strong sense of responsibility. Attention to detail is essential. He/she/they must be well organized, tactful, be able to work independently and maintain all records, documents and schedules associated project management. Communication skills, especially written, are critical.
