Presenter: Robert Cameron Wier
In this presentation we examine two important, but underused, town-level resources. Old town books, as maintained by town clerks since colonial times, and town annual reports, published from the mid-19th century to the present, can provide the breakthrough clues needed to demolish your genealogical brick wall. Where census and compiled vital records fail us, these resources can save the day. We will cover where to find these resources, how to interpret them, and how to use them to solve your genealogical conundrums.
Robert Cameron Weir is a genealogical researcher, lecturer, and author who lives in Dover, New Hampshire. He specializes in hard problems related to New England genealogy, from 1620 to the present. He is a member of the Association for Professional Genealogy and is the Publications Director for the New Hampshire Society of Genealogists.

Today, it is the center of many town programs and events from 4th of July fireworks and car shows to dog walking and Rye Day. How did we get from then to now? Join us for a history of the evolution of the Parsons Field we know today. Rye Historical Board member, Lew Karabatsos and Town Historian, Alex Herlihy, will use original documents and artifacts to tell the story of our much beloved, community gathering place.

New Hampshire has attracted and inspired artists since the colonial era. What is distinctive about the art made here? This program will consider works by itinerant and folk painters, landscape artists drawn to the state's scenic vistas, and modern artists that adopted bold styles to depict everyday life in the Granite State. Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Childe Hassam, and Maxfield Parrish are some of the artists discussed in this program. This event is made possible by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities.

Individuals who are interested in exploring their Rye roots or discuss genealogy in general are invited to meet with others on Zoom the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm. All are welcome to attend. Link is below.
Join us for our next online (Zoom) Genealogy open discussion on Tuesday, January 16th at 7:30. We will focus our conversation on the very special Rye Families quilt, which was created in 1897 by a number of residents of Rye. The quilt, which is on display at the Rye Historical Society Museum, is comprised of 64 panels, each of which has 8 hand-stitched names. Are you connected to any of the 500+ people sewn into the quilt? Do you have a story to share about a connection you might have? We'll have a few of our Rye family history experts on-hand to share some of the history of quilt families and we hope to hear from some of you as well.
For more information on Rye Families Quilt, and to look up your name, go to: https://www.ryenhhistoricalsociety.org/the-quilt-project/what-is-the-quilt-project?rq=quilt
